Where did I get my inspiration about this metal art sculpture entitled “Sky”?

This artwork entitled Sky is part of a solo exhibition on the theme of  the “circle”.

This show took place in a gallery in Athens on December 2008. The artist’s intention was to symbolize the concept of parallel worlds by creating two intersecting half-circles. Each circle has its own elements within. This geometrical parallelism is a metaphoric expression of what could be parallel worlds. This spire sculpture is aiming to convey the evolution of life.

Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) is one of Russia’s most famous artists and the founder of abstract art. His compositions have become iconic abstract art pieces around the world. Kandinsky took up painting by chance and rather late in life, when he was already 30 years old.

History of ball bearings…

In 1869, Jules Suriray received a patent for a radial ball bearing to be fitted into metal bicycles. The success of the improved design led to the creation of several new types of metal ball bearings, all with different designs that were specially created for a particular machine.

It was Sven Winquist who came up with a self-aligning design for ball bearings that set a new standard in terms of design. A quick succession of innovations within the field emerged, from the wire race bearing to the vee groove bearing.

When was the gear invented?

Some historians believe gears date back to at least the 27th century B.C. when they were used in a chariot in China. The ancient Greeks, including Aristotle, also described gear-like devices. Greek mathematician Hero of Alexandria was the first to write specifically about gears in 50 A.D. Source:wikipedia

How many types of engine valves are there?

Engine Intake and Exhaust Valve Basics. Engine valves are located in the cylinder head. The main function of the engine valves is to let air in and out of the cylinders. That air is used to help ignite the fuel which will drive the pistons up and down.

Geometric metal sculpture

Geometric metal sculpture

Geometric metal sculpture is a metal sculpture representing a geometric sculpture made of scrap parts.

Where did I get my influence about this Geometric metal sculpture?

The natural environment of African landscape, the primitive way of life and my father’s metal workshop where I used to spend many hours playing are the basic reasons that led me to metal sculpture by using engine’s spare parts. They provide me with shapes and forms which I weld, grind, polish and finally varnish. I feel that I always have something new to discover which lead to new ideas and inventions. Using parts is about constructing, assembling, disassembling. Try the infinite possibilities of combining various objects to form what I have in my mind.

My current themes are mostly humanoid. As am attempt to show the fragile nature of mankind through the birth cycle, the creation process, motherhood, love. On the other side, I experience metal sculpture as a game and revive my need to play by creating vehicles such as motorbikes, cars and trains.

The strong needs of an individual to explain his existence, to seek his origins, the power of the mind are themes that fascinate me. A challenge for me would be in creating huge metal sculptures involving movement in order to create kinetic sculptures (kinetic art). I admire kinetic artists such as Jean Tinguely, Alexander Calder and classic sculptors such as Henry Moore, David Smith. My goal through my artwork is to convey the way I experience life and my exploration of art by using an industrial material which is being transformed to an unusual medium in Art.

Sculpture is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions. It is one of the plastic arts. Durable sculptural processes originally used carving (the removal of material) and modelling (the addition of material, as clay), in stone, metal, ceramics, wood and other materials but, since Modernism, there has been an almost complete freedom of materials and process. A wide variety of materials may be worked by removal such as carving, assembled by welding or modelling, or molded, or cast.

A trend in painting and sculpture in the twentieth century. Abstract art seeks to break away from traditional representation of physical objects. It explores the relationships of forms and colors, whereas more traditional art represents the world in recognizable images.
Artistically, abstraction is important because it has freed artists from objective reality and allowed them to do two things: experiment with form and give more free reign to their imaginative selves
Characteristics of Abstract Art

Figurative art is characterized by partial abstraction. Even realistic art can have partial abstraction as well. But, all abstract arts makers use color, memory and visual sensation to show that reality is subjective – and that is probably the most important feature of abstract art

Abstract paintings can also be appreciated in terms of the individual elements of art: color, shape, line, texture, space, value, etc. An abstract artist’s skills lie in his or her ability to use colors and textures to their best visual strength and to create a sound composition from these elements.
Abstract art means the art is not representational but explores color and form. … For example, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Mark Rothko are famous artists from the Abstract Expressionism movement. There are also many techniques involved in abstract art. For example, Rothko layered on his colors.
