About the artist work

Yannis Dendrinos is not merely what we refer to as “sculptor”. Is somehow an explorer and a visionary. The 18 sculptures displayed in the exhibition entitled “Astronaut”, beyond the concept of functional construction as fixtures, they combine imagination, light and darkness, luxury and simplicity, and most importantly the need for exploration and creation. Through the hard industrial metals, materials that he uses and to which he gives a second life, disused insignificant materials acquire in his hands a distinct theatricality. The artist’s will to compose a world of science fiction, created by metallic anthropomorphic robots, space horizons and distant galaxies. Expresses this mood for a more imaginative approach to a standard functional object as a simple lighting fixture. But through these materials that testify the sudden industrialization of the last century, emerges a world reminiscent of the first attempts to craft a picture of the future, the next millennium but also the fear of the unknown. This journey in a romantic future taken out from our past, the creator attempts with his exhibition: a childhood innocence glance at a visual journey to different galaxies.

Steampunk, before it became the full-blown sub-culture it is today, started out as a science-fiction sub-genre in the 1970s. Its fundamental inspirations go all the way back to 19th century Victorian writers, such as Jules Verne (author of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) and H.G. Wells (author of The Time Machine)
Steampunk fashion is a subgenre of the steampunk movement in science fiction. It is a mixture of the Victorian era’s romantic view of science in literature and elements from the Industrial Revolution in Europe during the 1800s. Steampunk fashion consists of clothing, hairstyling, jewelry, body modification and make-up.

A spacecraft or spaceship is a vehicle or machine designed to fly in outer space. Spacecraft are used for a variety of purposes, including communications, earth observation, meteorology, navigation, space colonization, planetary exploration, and transportation of humans and cargo. All spacecraft except single-stage-to-orbit vehicles cannot get into space on their own, and require a launch vehicle (carrier rocket).

This garden sculpture art metal jellyfish monument has been created by Greek artist Giannis Dendrinos. His inspiration for this garden sculpture came within the idea of the protection of nature. Human beeings are smaller than nature. By creating a much bigger in size jellyfish than humans, Gianni’s goal is to force the spectator to feel smaller than nature. The materials used in this artwork are metal, electrical cables. This sculpture can be dismantled in 13 pieces for any need of shipment or transportation. 120 meters of electrical cables 5G10 have been used. It weighs around 100 Kg. This garden sculpture art metal Jellyfish has been exhibited in the Greek museum Eugenides Foundation in 2009 for the purpose of an exhibition called “Ecolife”.

Giannis Dendrinos is a Greek visual artist living in Athens, Greece. He has created more than 300 metal sculptures using scrap metal parts. He has exhibited his artworks in various art spaces and galleries. He is a father of 2 girls that are often the source for his inspiration. Where did I get my inspiration about this lamp metal sculpture?

This artwork entitled Borg cube is part of a solo exhibition on the theme of  space and sci-fi

This show took place in a gallery in Athens on December 2012. The artist’s intention was to symbolize the concept of parallel worlds by creating two intersecting half-circles. Each circle has its own elements within. This geometrical parallelism is a metaphoric expression of what could be parallel worlds. This borg sculpture is aiming to convey science-fiction abstract modern art.

 

Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead use shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect.
Abstract art uses a visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world.
Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) is one of Russia’s most famous artists and the founder of abstract art. His compositions have become iconic abstract art pieces around the world. Kandinsky took up painting by chance and rather late in life, when he was already 30 years old.
Abstract paintings can also be appreciated in terms of the individual elements of art: color, shape, line, texture, space, value, etc. An abstract artist’s skills lie in his or her ability to use colors and textures to their best visual strength and to create a sound composition from these elements.

History of ball bearings…

In 1869, Jules Suriray received a patent for a radial ball bearing to be fitted into metal bicycles. The success of the improved design led to the creation of several new types of metal ball bearings, all with different designs that were specially created for a particular machine.

It was Sven Winquist who came up with a self-aligning design for ball bearings that set a new standard in terms of design. A quick succession of innovations within the field emerged, from the wire race bearing to the vee groove bearing.

A spacecraft is something designed to fly in space, and can be manned or unmanned. A space shuttle is an American manned spacecraft designed to support human crews of seven for up to 30 days. A space probe is something designed to learn something about space or celestial bodies.
6 Space Shuttles were built (although only 5 of them spaceworthy): Challenger, Enterprise, Columbia, Discovery, Atlantis & Endeavour. 4 of them are still around, in various museums. Disintegrated after launch, killing all seven astronauts on board.
