About the artist

Giannis Dendrinos is a Greek artist creating sculptures by using industrial spare parts such as ball bearings, engine parts, valves, pistons and various metal industrial parts. By assembling these parts by welding, he creates artworks of various themes. One of his favourite themes are motorcycles and motorbikes. His motorbikes, motorcycles are unique in design and inspired by fantasy. He has created over 300 motorcycle decor artworks.

What is a motorcycle?

A motorcycle (or motorbike) is a vehicle used to transport people from one place to another. It does not have 4 wheels like a car. It has 2 wheels like a bicycle. But it has a motor like a car. A motorcycle is usually driven by one person. A passenger can also ride on the back of the motorcycle. Some motorcycles have a sidecar that can carry another passenger.

In 1901, the first successful motorcycle was made by “Indian motorcycles” in Springfield, Massachusetts. Since then, many other companies have made them. Major manufacturers include Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha. A well known American manufacturer of motorcycles is Harley-Davidson.

Since motorcycles can be lighter than cars, they can accelerate more quickly. But it also makes them not as safe as cars, because they do not have a protecting chassis around them like cars. Very often motorcycle riders are injured heavily in accidents. A motorcycle rider can wear a helmet and clothing that has armor. This special clothing may reduce the rider’s injuries in an accident. Motorcycles also do not protect riders against wind and rain. That makes it difficult to drive in winter or during bad weather.

In poor countries, motorcycles are used by many as a cheap method of transportation. Many people who do not have the money to buy a car can afford a small motorcycle. In rich countries, large powerful motorcycles are used more as a hobby or sport.

Origin of word decor

The word originates from 1897, from a show “scenery and furnishings,” from French décor (18c.). Originating from the verb décorer which means”to decorate” (14c.), from Latin decorare “to decorate, adorn, embellish, beautify,” from decus (genitive decoris) “an ornament.

Originally in English in reference to theater stages; home-decor is by 1900 in reference to copies of old masters paintings used as home decoration; general use for “decorations and furnishings of a room, building, etc.

Buy a unique ball bearing metal sculpture

This ball bearing sculpture is part of my abstract series of sculptures. It does not symbolize something particular. I mostly play with form and materials. Here I liked the composition between a hard material such as metal and a soft cloth.

What is a ball bearing used for?

The purpose of a ball bearing is to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads. It achieves this by using at least two races to contain the balls and transmit the loads through the balls. In most applications, one race is stationary and the other is attached to the rotating assembly (e.g., a hub or shaft). As one of the bearing races rotates it causes the balls to rotate as well. Because the balls are rolling they have a much lower coefficient of friction than if two flat surfaces were sliding against each other.

More about ball bearing

I use only metal scrap parts for my art sculptures. Passionate about mechanics and art, I started creating with metal and scrap since the age of 18. My themes vary between humanoid, figurative, transportation, motorcycle, abstract. The latest years I have adopted a passion for lighting. I started adapting lighting in my art sculptures. Why not combine uniqueness and functuionality.

Industrial lamps – a modern reflection of the factory appearance

Many artists set up their workshops in empty factories in the early 20th century. Τhat was the beginning of a trend in interior design that is very in trend today. But when these buildings were later converted into studio apartments or lofts, their minimal and functional style found its way into the world of modern life. Hard materials are characteristic of this interior style. Industrial lamps are made of various metals and materials such old industrial parts, plumbing piping, refurbished tools.

Wood and concrete are also often used. In terms of color, pure neutrals prevail, combined with rich color touches. For example, black, gray, brown, and white are combined with bright red and glossy yellow. Industrial light bulbs represent something original, unconventional. They deliberately exude a certain factory atmosphere and look a bit harsh and harsh. Industrial design lights fit perfectly with bare walls or open pipes in the house, but also retain their elegant look when added to a modern interior. They give light to different rooms of the house and always add a personal touch to your furniture.

About the artist

Giannis Dendrinos is a Greek sculptor living in Athens, Greece. Born in Congo, his art was much influenced by primitive and industrial style. As people in Africa have a tendency in building objects by using old, scrap materials, Giannis has been watching this behavior since a young age. Having grown up in his father’s metal workshop, he has been acquainted with industrial tools and materials as well. The combination of the primitive environment in Africa and the industrial workshop, forged his style in sculpture.

As Giannis holds an interest and passion for light, he has created a series of sculpture lights that combine modern and classic style, old materials with modern design, minimal and luxury of materials. He loves to use materials such as gears, valves, gears, plumbing piping and old tools and machinery. A modern desk lamp industrial style is a desk lamp that combine a minimal decorative style with industrial elements of remind other times.

What is symbolic art?

Symbolic is art is a form of art to convey the hidden meaning to the reader or listener.

It tells us about artistic expression and represents abstract ideas.

However, it is not limited to poetry and literature.

Symbolism is one of the most important elements which gives depth to art;

it can be the color of the painting or the depiction of characters

that are significant to symbolic to some specific themes.

A painter uses symbolism when he wants to put emotions and ideas in the picture

which we can’t experience with our five senses.

It’s all about showing instead of telling.

What is an ear jacket?

An earring jacket is an additional component that fits with your existing earring stud.

The jacket is created in order to wrap around your stud earrings.

It creates a 3D style to your earrings.

This method allows to embellish your earrings.

Ear jackets are extremely fancy and they are perfect

to make a style statement and even change a vibe of a look.

What is 925 sterling silver?

Unlike pure silver which contains 99,9% elemental silver (Ag),

925 sterling silver refers to silver’s composition 92,5% pure silver.

The remaining 7.5% of metal refers to other metals, such as copper

which improves the durability to the metal and make it last longer.

Source: wikipedia

Does sterling silver tarnish?

Yes, it can. Sterling silver 925 consists of 92,5% silver (Ag) and 7.5% of other metals.

Some of these metals, such as copper can cause sterling silver tarnish.

There is variety of things lead to make a silver jewellery turn black.

Some of these are moisture and chemicals.

How can I tell if silver is real?

A genuine sterling silver jewellery has a stamp on it.

While silver 925 is the best quality,

you may see a jewellery piece marked as 800 or 900.

Then you ‘ll know it contains less silver (80%, 90% silver and so on).

My sterling silver jewellery got tarnished. What can I do?

To make your silver jewellery shining as new make a paste from baking soda and water.

Put it in a soft cloth or sponge and rub it off gently.

What is originally a Kilimi?

Kilim is a flat tapestry-woven carpet or rug traditionally

produced in countries of the former Persian Empire,

including Iran, the Balkans and the Turkic countries.

Kilims can be purely decorative or can function as prayer rugs.

Modern kilims are popular floor coverings in Western households.

REMEMBER

Tarnishing is a natural process.

It’s a surface discolouration caused by the interaction of oxygen (air) with the silver.

However, there are more facts that affect this process.

Sweat, body cremes and perfumes play a huge part.

Store your jewellery in a safe, dry place.

Avoid moisture and liquids (perfumes, body cremes and so on).

Always check that the word silver refers to the metal,

What is Kilimi Jewellery?

Kilimi Jewellery is an artistic project launched in 2018 in Athens by Panagoula Bouli.

The silver collection of Kilimi is an embodiment of the decorative textiles.

The symbols are recontextualized and become a jewel for the body.

They become a statement, a link between the old and the new,

a transition from tradition to modernity.

A symbol to wear

Always check that the word silver refers to the metal,

and not to the colour of the piece.

Wear your statement stud earrings as much as you can

You make them shine!

What is symbolic art?

Symbolic is art is a form of art to convey the hidden meaning to the reader or listener.

It tells us about artistic expression and represents abstract ideas.

However, it is not limited to poetry and literature.

Symbolism is one of the most important elements which gives depth to art;

it can be the color of the painting or the depiction of characters

that are significant to symbolic to some specific themes.
